Build trust using social media

Recently, my posts about trust have been generating a lot of traffic and conversations. They've also been generating a lot of questions. And the one question that rules them all is: How can I build trust online?

While the short response is: Add and create value, I do have some tips on how to do this. But please note, building trust takes time and effort, and with trust comes responsibility.

  1. Listen. Spend time listening to the people that you want to connect with. What are they reading? What are they saying?
  2. Provide value. Share links, articles and insight based on what people want - which you will learn if you spend time listening. Instead of starting your own groups or conversations, enhance conversations where they already exists
  3. Connect others. Help other people connect with other people, even if this means they will focus their attention away from you. It shows your interests are selfless and helps build trust
  4. Say thank you. Recognize your followers and friends, thank them for support, and when possible, reward them for their loyalty
I hope that helps, and I am always interested to hear how it works. I know my readers would appreciate any additional suggestions, so please feel free to comment!

P.S. I want to say thank you to Chris Brogan for his insight about leveraging social media to create trust. I have repackaged many of his ideas in my tips above.
